5 Most Important Tips for How to Save Money on Electric Bill Payments
Electric bill

Your electric bill just hit your inbox. And just as you expected, it’s ridiculously high. Put simply, you’re tired of it.

So, now you’re wondering: what can you do to reduce the monthly cost? There are a number of options, 5 of which we’ll review below. Without further ado, here are a few of the most important tips for how to save money on electric bills.

1. Invest in a Programmable Thermostat

One thing you might consider is investing in a programmable thermostat. A programmable thermostat allows you to set turn-on and turn-off times, ensuring that you use your air conditioner as little as technologically necessary.

And because air conditioning comprises such a huge part of one’s electric bill, reducing the use of your air conditioner — even a little bit — could save you a fairly substantial amount of money.

2. Insulate!

Simply put, the more you insulate your home, the less electricity it will need to use. After all, air conditioners (and some heaters) consume absurd amounts of electricity. So, by taking strain off of your air conditioner and heater (with the use of added insulation), you ultimately reduce your overall electrical usage.

Add insulation to your attic, to your crawl space, to your water heater, to your electrical outlets, and to your light switches. Also, consider adding weatherstripping to your doorways. The more you add, the lower your energy bill will be.

3. Use Cold Water to Wash Your Clothes

When people think of washing clothes, they tend to think of hot water. And, in some cases, hot water might very well be needed. Note, though, that, in most cases, cold water will do just fine.

And because cold water doesn’t need to be heated by a water heater, it ultimately consumes less electricity.

4. Buy Energy Efficient Appliances

Simply put, not all appliances are created equal. Some are designed to be much more energy-efficient than others. If you want to use as little electricity as possible, these are the appliances you need to opt for.

The key is to look for the Energy Star logo. This logo indicates top-level energy-efficiency as regulated by the Environmental Protection Agency.

5. Install Solar Panels

It might not be the cheapest option in the short-term, but in the long-run, installing solar panels can be a huge money-saver. In fact, there are some houses that run entirely on solar power. So, if you’re willing to take a temporary hit to reap long-term benefits, this would be a solid option for you.

There are solar installers located all over the United States. Google “solar installers [your city or town]” and you should find one close to you.
