Mindfulness means non-judgmental awareness of the present moment.

You stop, pay attention to something sensory (such as your breathing) and watch your thoughts come and go. You don’t judge whatever thoughts and feelings arise. Instead, you observe it from afar and let them wash away.

Practicing mindfulness for just 10 minutes a day can have a host of positive effects on your mental health.

3. Self-Understanding

It’s also important to try and understand both you and your PTSD.

Improving your knowledge about PSTD can be reassuring in itself. However, understanding your own experience of it can be vital in reducing its impact.

Work out what triggers your specific feelings and reactions. What environmental conditions exacerbate it, and when is it most manageable?

Monitor and write down as much about the experience as possible. In so doing, you’ll come to see what you need to feel at your best.

4. PTSD Therapy

Seeing a therapist can help here too.

They’ll work with you to understand your PTSD better. Not only that, but they’ll also be able to provide suggestions to work through it.

Having a safe space to talk openly about how you’re doing is also of significant benefit. That alone can ease the burden of struggling with your mental health.
