Going to medical school in Singapore is only possible if you meet the conditions set by the university where you want to study. The requirements are pretty common across the schools in the country.

You will only find some differences when it comes to tuition fees, entrance exams, and teaching schedules. If you are planning to pursue your medical education in Singapore and you are curious about how you can enter a medical school, here are the conditions you have to meet.

1) Finish a pre-med degree.

Before you can go to medical school, you are required to finish a pre-med degree. Normally, Singaporean universities and schools will require you to undergo general education for 12 years before you qualify. During your pre-med, you must have studied Chemistry, Biology, and Physics as these three subjects serve as prerequisites.

On top of that, schools and universities also look for potential medical students who have excelled in their pre-med. So, if you have maintained at least a general weighted average of 2.00, you have higher chances of getting into medical school.

2) Secure all the documents required.

Getting into medical school requires you to submit documents, which is the normal process. Some of the papers you need to secure are your birth certificate, transcript of record during your pre-med, and transfer credentials. Aside from these, you should also prepare the application and examination fees.

The cost will depend on the school you are going to enroll in. The more prestige the school is, the higher the initial fees you are going to pay to submit your application. What’s important here is that your documents are prepared already before the admission test and enrollment.

Exam

3) Pass the medical college admission test (MCAT).

There is an admission exam you have to pass before you successfully get into medical school in Singapore and it is called the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT). This exam tests your medical skills and knowledge that are necessary to pursue medical education.

MCAT is broken down into four divisions–Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems, Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills, Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior, and Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems.

The Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems examines your problem-solving skill by answering chemical and physical questions. In this section, you need a sufficient foundation in Chemistry and Physics.

The Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills tests your reading and thinking abilities. This part uses a wide range of social sciences and humanities disciplines. You will read a passage then answer a series of questions.

The Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior section combines what you know about psychological, social, and biological concepts wherein you need your reasoning skills to pass.

Lastly, the Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems part is a combination of what you know about biological and biochemical concepts. You also need your reasoning skills to answer the questions here.

To pass the MCAT, you can enroll in some review classes months or weeks before your scheduled exam. It helps a lot if you will refresh your mind with things related to Chemistry, Biology, and Physics.

Most likely, they will recommend you undergo a treatment to improve your condition and once you are fine, they will likely accept your application.

You should not limit your options as well and check the best institution where you can qualify. If you are still in the search of a good medical school without strict requirements, MDIS is a private education institution in the country known for its great medical school facilities for students.
