Gun Safety 101: What to Expect From a Concealed Carry Class
Gun

If you’re looking to be one of the more than three million Americans who carry a handgun on their person, you’re first going to have to take a concealed carry class. It can be very exciting to sign up for a concealed carry class, but it can also be overwhelming.

But by knowing what to expect from such a class, what to bring, and what to do after you pass the class, you’ll be better prepared and informed. Interested in learning more? Continue reading and we’ll walk you through everything you need to know.

Questions You Can Expect to Be Asked

There are multiple questions that you can expect your instructor to ask you before you take the class. At a minimum, your instructor will want to know your full legal name, phone number, home address, and email address. Your full legal name will end up going on the certificate that’s required to get a concealed carry permit.

Your instructor should also ask you about what shooting experience you have. This will help them to better suit their instructions to your needs.

What To Bring

There are several items you’ll want to bring with you in order to have an optimal experience. First, you’re going to need ear and eye protection.

You’ll also want to wear proper clothing. This includes closed-toe shoes and pants with a belt.

You also never want to bring live ammunition to a class. It’s too easy to get live ammo mixed up with dummy ammunition.

What To Expect in a Conceal and Carry Class

Depending on where you live, laws might govern how long your class can be. If it’s not decided by the state, you can expect the class to last the whole day. If you’re taking a class by the NRA, you can expect a course booklet, dummy ammo, holsters, and training pistols.

A written test might also be mandated by the state. These are usually open book exams.

You can also expect a live-fire test at the gun range. You’ll be taught to load, fire an unload different types of handguns. A common gun in these classes is the STI Staccato XC 2011 Duo.

What Happens After the Course?

After you complete the course, you’ll receive a certificate from your instructor. You can then use this certificate to get yourself a concealed carry permit. If you still don’t feel ready to carry a handgun, you can always take more classes until you’re more comfortable.

Even experienced gun owners will go to concealed carry classes to brush up on information and safety.

The Importance of Knowing About Concealed Carry Classes

If you’re interested in becoming a responsible gun owner, then it’s crucial that you take a concealed carry class. These classes will teach you the local laws as well as how to safely and properly handle a gun. Because of how powerful guns can be, you want to be as prepared as possible before you purchase one.
