We’ve all had that warning light on the dash, or the balding tire that we’ve ignored thinking it’s nothing serious. Or maybe you thought you could hold out a little longer before getting it repaired.
There are some car problems that definitely should not be ignored. We’ve put together this list of 5 common car problems that could turn into serious safety problems if ignored.
1. Smoke
If your car is producing smoke this can be a sign of a multitude of serious issues including:
- Burning oil
- Leaking fluids
- Incorrect amount of gas used
These can be a sign of serious engine trouble in the immediate future. If you notice any smoke coming from your vehicle it’s best to get your vehicle looked at as soon as possible.
2. Brake Problems
Anytime you notice your breaks squealing, the brake pedal is hard to press, or the brake goes all the way to the floor you could have a serious problem. This can cause you to not be able to stop your car at all. This can cause an accident and could cause serious harm to you or other motorists.
Make a habit of checking your breaks regularly to ensure proper function. If you have any doubts at all this service should be scheduled quickly.
3. Leaking Fluids
If you notice a puddle of fluid in your driveway when you go to leave you might have a serious problem. You could be losing oil, transmission fluid, antifreeze and coolant, brake fluid, or even gas. Needless to say, this could have devastating effects on your engine.
Be sure to check your fluid levels pretty often just in case the leak is hard to detect. If the levels are low add fluid and monitor if it holds it or not.
4. Steering Problems
Steering your vehicle should be relatively easy and comfortable. If your steering is too tight you may have a problem with your power steering. This can make it hard to turn and could cause an accident.
If you notice your steering is loose or wobbly you might have an issue with your tire’s alignment. This can cause a lot of further damage to your vehicle. It could also cause you to lose control of your vehicle while driving causing an accident.
5. Stalling
If you notice your car dying while idling at a red light or stop sign or losing power while accelerating this is a sign of serious motor troubles. This kind of problem is best taken care of as soon as you notice it the first time and can lead to other problems if ignored.
