CBG vs CBD: What’s the Difference Between Them?
marijuana plant and cannabis oil

At this point, everyone is somewhat familiar with the hippest new ingredient, CBD. Cannabidiol, derived from the cannabis plant, has been around for a while now as the newest “it” product in holistic health.

With a long and diverse list of benefits, it’s no surprise that it has boomed in popularity. But what about CBG? A slightly similar cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant.

What is the difference between CBG vs CBD? And what is CBG used for? Keep reading to find out!

Breaking Down the Basics

To fully understand what CBG is and how it is different from CBD there are some basic things to go over. First, the word cannabinoid refers to substances that our bodies’ endocannabinoid system are able to interact with.

This system of cannabinoid receptors is present in all mammals and mostly exists within the immune and nervous system to help keep things running smoothly. These cannabinoid receptors also help to regulate our inflammatory response.

When the cannabinoids from the Cannabis plant enter our body, they directly affect and interact with these systems which is how we are able to receive healing benefits such as a reduction in pain or inflammation.

What Is CBG?

CBG is a cannabinoid that is very similar to CBD. Without diving too deep into the chemistry, CBG and CBD both come from CBGA which is cannabigerolic acid found in the plant.

These two cannabinoids go through a slightly different conversion process to be extracted and CBG ends up making up only about 1% of each plant. This makes CBG relatively difficult to extract, which has scientists hard at work trying to figure out a better way.

CBG vs CBD

Although CBG and CBD are similar in origin, they interact with the body in different ways. CBG interacts mostly with cannabinoid receptors in the brain in a very similar way to THC, the psychoactive cannabinoid known for making you high.

However, much like CBD, CBG has no psychoactive component. The health benefits between both CBG and CBD are slightly different too.

CBD is known to aid in many things such as relieving joint pain, reducing anxiety, reducing inflammation, aiding in sleep, and even reducing epileptic seizures. On the other hand, CBG has been found to help treat glaucoma, have antibacterial properties, help with IBS, and some studies show it may even help reduce cancerous tumors.

Just like when CBD first emerged on the scene, the studies on CBG are somewhat limited. However, this cannabinoid is showing promising results. For a range of both CBD and CBG products, check out this website https://cannahyve.com/

Is CBG the Next Big Thing?

When looking at the differences between CBG vs CBD, they seem to be more alike then they are different. However, the promising results of preliminary studies on CBG show that it treats a different variety of issues from its popular counterpart.

As these studies progress, CBG just might be the next big craze in the work of holistic health. Try these two substances out for yourself to see what you think!
